Mare and Lucia in Narinig Mo Ba

Lucia is the neighbour in Narinig Mo Ba who greets you as Mare and rarely buys anything without sharing some news. This guide explains what mare means, how the tagline "Huy, Mare! Narinig mo ba?" works as a gossip opener and what Lucia orders on each visit, using the story files of the build on this site. Her part in the later story stays folded inside spoiler blocks; outside them, the page names only her visits and orders.

Story spoilers on this page stay inside closed “Story spoilers ahead” panels. The title, summary and headings are spoiler-free.

Who is Lucia?

Lucia is your neighbour and one of the most talkative regulars in Narinig Mo Ba. In the story files of the build on this site she comes to the window on Days 1, 3, 5 and 6. She always calls you Mare, and almost every visit comes with news about somebody else.

On Day 1 the news is about a child's family: "Did you hear about Layla's parents?" She has heard they are fighting for custody, and she does not hold back: "those people really are good for nothing." On Day 3 her subject is Junjun, the coffee-stick regular: "did you see the look on Junjun's face?"

She is warm, generous with her opinions and quick to judge. She also places the biggest order of the six days, stocking up for "a small celebration" after payday. In Narinig Mo Ba, listening to Lucia is how you learn who lives nearby and what people say about them.

What does mare mean?

In everyday Filipino, mare is a familiar way for women to address a close friend or a neighbour they trust. It is commonly understood as a short form of kumare; we give that as common usage, not a checked etymology. The game itself does not explain the word: it simply uses it.

In Narinig Mo Ba the word runs both ways. Lucia opens with "Mare!", and your replies answer in kind: "Mare! How's life?" or "No problem, Mare!"

That matters, because in the story files nobody else talks to you like this. Most visitors call the shopkeeper Ate (older sister) and the children say Tita (auntie). Mare marks Lucia as a friend and an equal, someone who expects to be told things and to tell you things in return.

The familiar greeting

The creators' release page carries the tagline "Huy, Mare! Narinig mo ba?", roughly "Hey, Mare! Did you hear?" Huy is a casual "hey" that grabs someone's attention, and narinig mo ba is the game's title. Together they sound like the opening of a piece of neighbourhood gossip.

People also search for "narinig mo ba si…", roughly "have you heard about…" followed by someone's name. Lucia's first conversation follows that pattern in English: "Did you hear about Layla's parents?"

Another common search, "may tsismosa sa tindahan", reads roughly as "there's a gossip at the store". The game puts you on the other side of that window. You serve, you listen, and you decide how much to believe.

Serving regulars

Lucia's orders from the story files, with in-game product names:

Day Visit Order Total
1 2nd 2 "Manok na Manok" noodle soup, 1 Kornbep corned beef ₱58
3 3rd 2 La Pad beers, 3 Royal, 2 Kornbep corned beef ₱394
5 3rd 3 "Manok na Manok" noodle soup ₱27
6 4th No purchase; she leaves something with you —

Tips for her visits

  • Follow the pictures. On Day 3 she asks for "Sharmaigne sodas". The "I need:" list shows what she means: the Royal glass bottles.
  • Know where things are. Noodles and corned beef are in the "← shelf" view; beer and bottled sodas are behind "fridge →".
  • Count her money. In our browser run she paid the ₱58 Day 1 order with a ₱50 note plus several coins. Check what lands on the counter before you open the drawer.
  • Use the calculator for Day 3. At ₱394 it is the biggest bill of the week: subtract the total from what she paid and return the difference.
  • Chat freely. In the story files each of her conversations is a fixed list of steps, so pushing back on her gossip ("Grabe ka naman…", roughly "that's harsh…") leads to the same next line and the same order.

Spoiler-marked discussion

The blocks below cover Lucia's last two visits and what follows them in Narinig Mo Ba. Open them only if you have finished the story or do not mind knowing.

Story spoilers ahead Lucia on Days 5 and 6

On Day 5 the gossip turns dark. When you mention a corpse, she recalls that "the canal did smell really bad yesterday", then points at another customer without any evidence: "If anything, I bet Carlo did it…"

On Day 6 she arrives at night with a favour. She has to leave town and asks you to keep her paluwagan record book, the ledger of a rotating savings group: "Don't tell anyone, alright?" Before she goes, she adds: "Please don't open it."

Story spoilers ahead The rest of her story

The scripts indicate that opening the book shows its page and then loads the ending scene. Lucia returns ("I told you not to open it"), says Junjun was trying to break into her house, that she did not mean to kill him and that it was an accident, then bangs on the gate demanding the book. Jomar arrives, and your final reply is "She killed Junjun…" or "Arrest her!"

Our interpretation, not a fact from the files: her Day 3 question about Junjun's face and her Day 5 accusation of Carlo read very differently afterwards. The files never explain her motives.

Browser & loading help

A failed check can come from the browser, device, driver or a managed setting. Choose your browser below.

Chrome could not start WebGL2. Update and relaunch Chrome, then check graphics acceleration if your desktop settings allow it.

  1. Open the menu, choose Help → About Google Chrome, install any update and select Relaunch.
  2. On a computer, open Settings → System and check that graphics acceleration is available. Relaunch after changing it.
  3. On Android, update Chrome and the system from their usual update screens instead.
  4. Do not force experimental flags. On a managed device the setting may belong to your administrator.

Update macOS, iOS or iPadOS to update Safari. If native fullscreen is unavailable, use the expanded view inside this page.

  1. Safari updates with the system: use Software Update on your Mac, iPhone or iPad.
  2. The game does not need any experimental Safari settings. If WebGL2 still fails, try an updated, supported device.
  3. On iPhone and iPad most browser apps use Safari’s engine (WebKit), so switching browsers there usually changes little. The WebGL2 check on this site is what counts.
  4. Where native fullscreen is not available, Fullscreen expands the player inside the page. Rotating is always your choice.

Update Firefox, review its Performance settings and restart. If WebGL2 still fails, try another supported device.

  1. Update Firefox, then open Settings and find the Performance section.
  2. Use the recommended performance settings, or review the hardware acceleration option if your system shows one. Restart after a change.
  3. Option names vary between versions and systems. Do not bypass the compatibility safeguards that block unstable graphics drivers.

Update Edge and restart it. On desktop, check graphics acceleration. A managed device may need help from its administrator.

  1. Open Settings and more → Help and feedback → About Microsoft Edge to install updates, then restart.
  2. On a computer, look under Settings → System and performance for graphics acceleration, then restart.
  3. An organisation can control this setting. Ask its administrator instead of trying to override the policy.

Opening help does not save or necessarily pause the game. Restarting may lose this session.
